Mac Prep + Prime Fix + Review

In this week’s blog, I will be reviewing Mac Fix + and going through its different uses. I will be filling you in on the following:

1. Product Description:

On the Mac Cosmetics website, the product is described as: “A lightweight mist of water packed with vitamins and minerals, infused with a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber to gently soothe and refresh the skin. Gives an instant boost of hydration while delivering a soft sheen to refresh and finish makeup.” 

On the website there are also the key claims and benefits:

• “Soothes and refreshes skin

• Hydrating

• Dermatologist tested

• Ophthalmologist tested

• Non-acnegenic”

As well as usage:

• “Hold bottle 12 inches away from face and spray evenly.

• Use alone or to finish makeup.”

I agree with the product description, key claims and benefits and usage. Once the mist has dried into the face it is very lightweight and you can not feel it on the skin. It definitely gives a hydrating boost to the skin and is perfect if you want to wear it alone or to give a dewy look to your makeup.

2. Product Uses:

Personally, my favourite use for Fix+ is to spray it after I have finished my makeup and let it dry in before I spray my setting spray. This gives my makeup a dewy finish which is my preferred finish.

It also has many more uses such as;

You can spray it on before you apply makeup and let it dry in to give your skin extra hydration and it gives a lovely dewy glow to your complexion.

I use it when I am using loose pigments to help pack them onto my lid. I spritz a tiny amount onto my eyeshadow packing brush, let the brush absorb the FIX + for about 5 to 10 seconds, I then lightly press it into the loose pigment, I tap the brush lightly and then apply the pigment to my lid. I find this intensifies the pigment and also reduces fallout.

I also use Fix + to intensify the pigmentation of pressed shadows. First I will apply the shadow to the desired area, if I am unhappy with the colour pay off, I will lightly spritz the brush with Fix + and let the brush absorb it slightly – just like with the loose pigments – and go back into the pan, pick up more of the same shadow on the brush and apply it to the desired area and voilà I have the pigmentation from the shadow I desire.

Mac Fix + can also be used to intensify highlighter! Same process as the loose pigment and pressed eyeshadows, spritz the brush, let it absorb the Fix + then pick up the highlighter on the brush and apply it to your desired areas for a blinding glow!

Just to warn you Fix + is not a setting spray, it will do nothing to improve the longevity of your makeup!

3. Price:

I buy a 100ml bottle Fix + from the Mac counters in Brown Thomas where it costs €22.00. Considering how much you get, how many different uses it has and a bottle lasts me about 3 months I think it is great value! There is also a mini one sized 30ml for €10.00, which you can also get in Brown Thomas.

4. Product Packaging:

The outer packaging is a shiny black rectangular cardboard box with red and green sparkles on it. On the front is the brand name, product name and how much ml/ fl oz of product you get. The back of the box has part of the product description and how to use it in multiple languages, Canadian and English postal addresses, states the product was made in the U.S.A., Mac Cosmetics web address and states the product has a usage life of 24 months i.e. Two years. The bottom of the box has the bar code and the batch number. The right side, the left side and the top of the box is blank.

The Fix + bottle is made of a clear plastic with little sparkles in it and is cylindrical in shape – which I like because you can see how much product you have left. The bottle has all the same information as the box. The nozzle is black plastic. One feature I particularly like about the bottle is that you can twist the nozzle to lock it and unlock it this helps stop it from being sprayed accidentally and wasting any of the product.
